Betfair Chase Day: King Kauto

KS statue

It was Betfair Chase Day at Haydock Park on Saturday and I was in attendance along with many others to watch the 2012 running of the Betfair Chase and of course to get a look at 4 time Betfair Chase winner Kauto Star's statue in honour of this great horse nicknamed 'King Kauto'. Myself and others also had the pleasure to see Kauto as he was parading before the big race and lead the horses out for the Betfair Chase getting a lovely and warm reception from the crowd on his way back in as well as when he was parading. It was lovely walking around Haydock Park to see many generations wearing Kauto Star's famous colours. It's clear that Kauto holds a special place in many hearts (including mine) at Haydock Park and this was shown on Saturday. The statue in honour of him looks fantastic and sits proudly in place on its plinth along with the years marked when he won each of his 4 Betfair Chase's.

The 2012 Betfair Chase was won by Silviniaco Conti trained by Paul Nicholls and ridden by Ruby Walsh. Although I did tip The Giant Bolster it was nice to see it go back to the team behind Kauto Star.

As for Silviniaco it looks like he will be going for the Gold Cup.

On a final note I'd like to say good on sponsors Betfair for keeping everyone at Haydock Park nice and warm with the free yellow scarf which were being handed out to racegoers as they entered (nice touch).

To end I'll leave you with some Kauto Star memories, enjoy...
